Back in the 15th century a rumor about a mystical city began to spread. This is now known as a lost city. Lost cities have basically been lost but nowadays people stumble across them all the time. Some lost cities made their way to the hall of fame board such as machu pichu and Petra. Recently abandoned cities might be referred to as ghost towns. You can find a lost city in all kinds of places, from the desert to the sea to the jungle.
Many lost city locations have been lost but have been retold in myths and legends. Most lost cities were and are uninhabited for a long time.
The search for such lost cities by European explorers and adventurers in the Americas, Africa and in Southeast Asia from the 15th century onwards eventually led to the creation of archaeology. But thats just the introduction. Read on if you want to find out more.
